Iberdrola, an electric utility company, is looking for startups that can provide its offshore wind farms with advanced inspection and digitisation services using autonomous or remote-controlled technologies.
The utility company announced that the startups it’s looking for and selecting will join its PERSEO programme and work on providing inspection solutions.
Solutions should encompass 3D modelling or digital replicas and the ability to perform preventive maintenance and repairs on the site’s turbines, substations, jackets, foundations, and subsea cables.
Among the solutions, there is an emphasis on the criteria that the solutions should employ autonomous or remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) and inspection systems for different components of offshore wind farms, as offshore locations are frequently exposed to severe weather conditions and environments.

The company selected from the pool of applications will have the opportunity to test its solutions either with PERSEO or any other Iberdrola entity. The entity will finance the pilot activities and arrange technical support if necessary.
The support required and field testing will involve testing in a natural data environment and access to tools, infrastructure, and other amenities.
If the solutions application’s pilot phase is successful, the company might offer the solutions provider agreements to expand the application. In addition, PERSEO might finance the winning solution.
Since its inception in 2008, the PERSEO programme has endowed nearly €175 million in startups. It funds startups that participate in transforming the energy sector and making it sustainable.
The programme’s investments mostly cover electrification and decarbonisation of the economy, as well as identifying potential business opportunities. It also aims to encourage technological collaboration.
