Ignitis Renewables, a green energy company, announced that it is expanding its operations in Latvia.
The expansion plan includes an investment of €106 million to develop the 174-megawatt (MW) Tume solar farm, set to become one of the largest solar installations in the Baltics.
This project marks Ignitis Renewables’ third solar initiative in Latvia and highlights the company’s dedication to advancing the region’s transition to a greener and more sustainable future.

Thierry Aelens, CEO at Ignitis Renewables, said, “We are ambitiously working to expand the renewable energy segment and develop new projects in Latvia, as Ignitis Renewables sees huge growth potential in this region.”
He added, “Expanding our portfolio of solar energy projects is a significant benefit for households, businesses and for supporting local community initiatives in the region where we are developing renewable energy projects. It also allows us to move closer to implementing Ignitis Group’s strategic priority to deliver 4–5 GW of installed green capacities by 2030.”

The Tume solar farm, situated in the Tume parish of Tukums municipality, will have a targeted capacity of 174 MW. It is expected to provide electricity to approximately 85,000 households annually.
This project will be the first from Ignitis Renewables to incorporate tracker technology, which automatically follows the sun’s path to enhance the efficiency of solar panels and increase electricity generation.
Construction is set to commence later this year, with the facility anticipated to begin commercial operations in 2026.
