Renewable Energy Development in Albania
The agreement marks a major step toward advancing renewable energy in Albania. It focuses on developing, constructing, and operating renewable energy projects, including solar PV, wind, and hybrid systems.
The partnership may also explore integrating battery storage. The energy produced will primarily serve Albania’s domestic market and could be exported to neighboring countries.
Collaboration to Boost Albania’s Clean Energy Transition
This partnership combines KESH’s role as Albania’s leading energy producer with Masdar’s global renewable energy expertise. Masdar will contribute its strong relationships with technology providers, financial institutions, and operational experience. KESH, in turn, brings local market knowledge and infrastructure to the table. Together, they aim to accelerate Albania’s transition to clean energy and support broader European energy market goals.

Impact on Albania’s Energy Capacity and Regional Security
The joint venture is expected to significantly boost Albania’s renewable energy capacity, meeting domestic demand and enhancing energy exports. This will support energy security and sustainability goals across the region. The partnership is a key part of the broader strategic alliance between the UAE and Albania.
Masdar’s Expanding Footprint in Southeast Europe
Masdar has been increasing its presence in Southeast Europe. The company recently proposed acquiring TERNA ENERGY, Greece’s largest renewable energy developer, with a target capacity of 6GW by 2029. Additionally, Masdar has closed financing for the 154MW Čibuk 2 wind farm in Serbia, adding to its existing 158MW Čibuk 1 wind farm. This brings its total renewable capacity in Serbia to over 300MW.
By collaborating with KESH, Masdar continues to strengthen its position in the Balkans and contribute to Europe’s clean energy future.
