Masdar, the UAE’s largest clean energy player, has signed a deal with TotalEnergies and 2PointZero’s decarbonization unit EPointZero to boost clean energy access in Asia and Africa. The three companies signed an agreement of Framework for Action (FFA) on February 16, 2025, during the UAE-France High-Level Business Council summit in Paris.
The summit followed a meeting between UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and French President Emmanuel Macron, where both presidents reiterated their commitment towards furthering bilateral collaboration in high-priority sectors, including climate action and energy.
Doubling Renewable Energy in Key Places
TotalEnergies and Masdar will join forces to deliver sustainable electricity to African society, enabling long-term energy transformation in the region. The two companies will also look into opportunities in clean energy in Southeast Asia. TotalEnergies and EPointZero will work on solar, wind, and storage projects to support India’s quest to decarbonize.
Distinguished guests, notable leaders such as H.E. Dr. Sultan Al Jaber UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Chairman of Masdar; Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman and CEO of TotalEnergies; and H.E. Mariam Almheiri, Group CEO of 2PointZero attended the signing ceremony. Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, CEO of Masdar; Stéphane Michel, President for Gas Renewables and Power at TotalEnergies; and Peter Abraam, Chief Strategy and Growth Officer of IHC signed the agreement.
Stéphane Michel, President for Gas Renewable and Power of TotalEnergies said, “By supporting the development of the country’s Oil and Gas reserves, TotalEnergies has been a key partner of Abu Dhabi for more than 80 Years. We are now delighted to extend our partnership with Abu Dhabi to the development of renewable energies in emerging markets in Asia and Africa.”
He added, “Combining the strengths, expertise and reach of Masdar, EPointZero and TotalEnergies will certainly enable each partner to accelerate their growth and improve the quality of their investment in those fast-developing markets where renewable energies are key to those countries’ Energy Transition.”

Strengthening UAE-France Economic and Energy Ties
Inaugurated in July 2022, the UAE-France High-Level Business Council promotes cross-investment and economic cooperation among businesses from the two countries. The Council has been spearheading innovation and partnership in energy and sustainability since its inaugural plenary in January 2023.Since 2022, the UAE and France have enhanced their energy alliance by creating a climate investment platform to further aid sustainability targets.
This partnership reflects a high level of dedication to the transition to clean energy and bringing renewable power to the developing world worldwide.
