European Energy announced that it has signed a chain of power purchase agreements (PPAs) with Microsoft.
European Energy issued a press release announcing the PPAs, although specific details regarding the number of agreements remain undisclosed.
However, the release emphasizes the “long-term” nature of these agreements, signalling a sustained partnership in driving forward the green transition.
The energy decided in the PPAs will be generated using a portfolio of solar and wind assets located in Denmark and Sweden.
Under the terms of these agreements, European Energy undertakes to supply Microsoft with more than 3.6 terawatt-hours (TWh) of energy over the duration of the contracts.
Jens-Peter Zink, Deputy CEO of European Energy, said, “We are excited that Microsoft has committed itself to driving forward the green transition. “
He added, “The roll-out of renewable power is dependent on major stakeholders dedicating themselves to buying the renewable electricity produced from these assets, which requires substantial capital investments.”Â

Microsoft aims to procure energy from renewable sources by 2030 and attain sources to meet its energy demand by 2025, thereby becoming a carbon-negative company. Â
This latest agreement with European Energy adds to Microsoft’s growing portfolio of power agreements.
Recently, Microsoft signed six 12-year-long virtual power purchase agreements with Spanish energy company Repsol.
