According to a media release, RWE, a renewable energy company, has signed two 15-year power purchase agreements (PPAS) with Microsoft Corporation. Under the agreements, Microsoft will purchase electricity produced by two new RWE onshore wind farms in Texas.
The two 15-year agreements relate to the 243-megawatt (MW) Peyton Creek II wind farm and the 203-MW Lane City project.
The release mentioned that the Peyton Creek onshore wind farm recently broke the ground and is located near the Creek I wind farm in Bay City. The company made progress on the Lane City project by passing on an investment decision. The two projects together have a capacity of 446 MW.

The wind farms will help the energy company extend its presence in Texas, the company’s largest US market. In that region, 33 operational renewable projects with a capacity of 4.3 Gigawatts (GW0) are located. As of now, RWE has a portfolio boasting 9.3 GW across the wind, solar, and battery sectors.

On the other hand, Microsoft gets the aid required to contribute to its goal of transforming its electricity consumption. The tech giant has placed its sights on shifting all electricity consumption to renewable energy by 2035.
