Mitsubishi Corporation announced the Group will be reviewing strategies for offshore wind power generation projects it is undertaking in Japan, given the exceptionally significant change in the macroeconomic environment worldwide. The projects were developed by a consortium led by Mitsubishi Corporation Offshore Wind Ltd. They are spread over three locations in Japan, namely Akita Prefecture covering Noshiro City, Mitane Town, and Oga City; Yurihonjo City, Akita Prefecture; and Choshi City, Chiba Prefecture.
MC has been involved in these offshore wind projects since it was picked as the operator in December 2021. It has successfully made some meaningful progress with various stakeholders. Currently, the firm is experiencing an increasingly changing business environment that resulted from the impact of the pandemic and the continuing Ukraine crisis that has created new unforeseen issues in the sector of offshore winds.
Global Economic Factors Impacting the Company
Recent global changes include the ongoing inflation, a rising interest rate, the weakness of the Japanese yen, and supply chain issues. The change in the offshore wind business has also led Mitsubishi Corporation to reevaluate the plans for the Japan projects.
The company will analyze the results and take appropriate next steps thereafter.
