Recurrent Energy, a subsidiary of Canadian Solar Inc., announced that it successfully closed a € 50 million loan from the European Investment Bank (EIB) to support the growth and construction of a solar energy portfolio in Italy.
The loan will further reinforce Recurrent Energy’s contribution to Italy’s clean energy transition, enhance the country’s renewable energy capacity, and contribute to reducing emissions and increasing energy independence.
Additionally, it aligns with the EIB’s focus on lending to renewable energy, climate action and social and economic cohesion.

Recurrent Energy CEO Ismael Guerrero said, “We are excited to extend our banking relationship with an entity as the EIB. This transaction is a pivotal step toward our goal of becoming one of the largest Independent Power Producers (IPPs) globally.”
He added, “It aligns with our commitment to fostering a more sustainable economy in Europe and beyond. We look forward to building a long-term relationship with the EIB to support our mutual objectives.”

Recurrent Energy has been expanding its presence in Italy since 2017. The company recently inaugurated its 51-megawatt solar photovoltaic project in Anguillara, located in Marsala, Sicily, making Italy the central hub for its European projects.
Additionally, Recurrent Energy has a pipeline consisting of 10.3 global warming potential in Solar PV and 32.8 Gigawatt hours in battery energy storage in EMEA.
