SERMATEC, a renewable energy solutions provider, launched a 5.1 megawatt (MW)/17.8MWh energy storage system aimed at enhancing the efficiency of solar power in Bulgaria
This new storage solution for commercial and industrial use is expected to revolutionise the local energy market by addressing the challenges associated with excess solar generation, promoting sustainability, and fostering economic development in the region.
SERMATEC’s recent energy storage system was designed for a photovoltaic plant experiencing significant inefficiencies due to an overproduction of solar energy.
Before installing this innovative storage system, the plant had to discard surplus electricity during the day and rely on grid power purchases at night, leading to an imbalance in energy supply and demand.
With an annual storage capacity exceeding 6.5 million kWh, the new system enables the plant to store excess energy and participate in electricity market trading, ensuring a stable and cost-effective energy environment.

The project consists of 48 units of SERMATEC’s EasyCube Series 372kWh Energy Storage Systems, which are designed to optimize space and provide operational flexibility.
These cabinet-style units optimise space and provide operational flexibility.
Each unit is powered by advanced 3.2V 280Ah lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, offering a conversion efficiency of up to 99% and a design life of over 15 years.
This system effectively addresses the issue of solar overproduction and aligns with the region’s efforts to promote green, low-carbon development.

The storage system is integrated with SERMATEC’s self-developed Energy Management System (EMS), enabling the plant to maximise its solar energy consumption.
The EMS ensures efficient energy use by managing peak and off-peak usage and enhances a cloud-based platform for real-time monitoring.
Additionally, the project incorporates SERMATEC’s proprietary Battery Management System (BMS), which improves battery safety and extends its operational life.
