Sunfire, a leading global electrolysis firm, has been awarded a significant contract to supply a 100-megawatt (MW) pressurized alkaline electrolyzer for RWE’s hydrogen facility in Lingen.
This expanded partnership highlights Sunfire’s pivotal role in advancing large-scale hydrogen projects and significantly contributes to industry decarbonization efforts.
The announcement follows RWE’s recent final investment decision (FID) on its largest hydrogen project to date.

The contract highlights Sunfire’s growing influence in the renewable energy sector and its commitment to supporting major industrial transformations towards cleaner energy solutions.
The order consists of 10 modules of the company’s pressurised alkaline technology, with 10 megawatts per unit. The electrolyzer will provide one-third of the total production capacity of RWE’s 300 MW plant.
Sunfire will also install and commission the 100 MW electrolyzer, which is scheduled to be operational by the end of 2027.
Sunfire announced that the plant will generate two tons of green hydrogen per hour. The generated power will mostly be used for Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia industrial customers.
Nils Aldag, Sunfire CEO, said, “With the realization of major projects such as the 100 MW order from RWE, Sunfire is underlining its leading position once again. Sunfire is one of the few companies in the world that can deliver electrolyzers at an industrial scale. With an order book totaling over 800 MW, we are a preferred partner for large-scale projects.”

According to the announcement, the 100 MW electrolyzer supplied by Sunfire is a crucial component of the GET H2 Nukleus project at RWE’s hydrogen site in Lingen.
The company has secured the contract for the third construction phase, aiming to expand production capacity to 300 MW.
A couple of weeks ago, the energy company and the electrolyzer specialist inaugurated a 10 MW pressurized alkaline electrolyzer in Lingen.
Furthermore, Sunfire’s high-temperature SOEC electrolyzer has generated hydrogen at the RWE Emsland gas-fired power plant location since 2023.
