The United States Secretary of Energy, Jennifer Granholm, and Brazil’s Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, announced a series of new joint initiatives to advance renewable energy efforts and reaffirm their commitment to a just and inclusive energy transformation.
This announcement was made during the third ministerial meeting of the US-Brazil Energy Forum (USBEF), where both countries underscored their shared democratic values and the pressing need to address the climate crisis.
Granholm and Silveira stressed the importance of collaboration and sharing best practices to reach net zero emissions by 2050.
The United States’ Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Act, Brazil’s Fuel of the Future and Low Emission Hydrogen laws, and other countries were acknowledged for their contributions to the deployment of clean energy and the decarbonization of industries like natural gas, oil, and industry.
Granholm expressed her congratulations to Silveira on the launch of Brazil’s National Energy Transition Policy and reiterated US support for Brazil’s upcoming G20 Presidency and its hosting of important global clean energy events, such as the 9th Mission Innovation Ministerial and the 15th Clean Energy Ministerial.
