X-energy Reactor Company, LLC, a leader in advanced nuclear reactor and fuel technology, has closed its upsized Series C-1 financing round at $700 million. The round also included new investors, such as Segra Capital Management, Jane Street, funds from Ares Management, and Emerson Collective, among others. Repeat contributors included the Climate Pledge Fund from Amazon, Citadel’s Ken Griffin, and other prominent investors.
Accelerating Advanced Nuclear Energy Development
Kam Ghaffarian, Ph.D., Founder and Executive Chairman of X-energy, said, “We welcome our new investors along our journey to accelerate the development and deployment of advanced nuclear energy and meet the growing demand for reliable, safe and clean energy.”
He added, “We are proud to have gained the additional support from our industry, government, and investment community since X-energy was founded more than 15 years ago. We look forward to continuing to advance and scale our technology and realize our vision of fulfilling the growing energy needs of future generations.”
X-energy intends to invest the funds in reactor design, licensing and advancing its TRISO-X fuel facility in Tennessee. The funding will also support the development of more carbon-free projects using X-energy’s new Xe-100 advanced small modular reactors.
X-energy’s Xe-100 SMR and TRISO-X fuel technology stands out among other clean energy sources as being safer and more reliable. Multi-unit plants have output ranging from 320 MW to 960 MW, and the electricity production capacity of a single Xe-100 reactor is 80 MW. The compact, modular design enables scalability, transportability, and flexibility, cutting construction time and costs for deployment in multiple regions.

Strategic Partnerships and Future Collaborations
X-energy is developing its first Xe-100 plant at Dow’s UCC Seadrift Operations site on the Texas Gulf Coast. With US Department of Energy support, this will be North America’s first advanced nuclear reactor providing zero-carbon power and also steam to industry.
X-energy is working with Amazon to add over five gigawatts of new power projects across the US by 2039. Their partnership covers funding for development, licensing, construction, and long-term energy deals to meet demand and power Amazon’s operations sustainably. Furthermore, X-energy and Amazon are teaming up to simplify funding and deployment of nuclear energy projects with infrastructure and utility partners.
