Baker Hughes, an energy technology company, announced significant contracts with Petrobras to provide 77 kilometers of flexible pipe systems for Brazil’s pre-salt regions as part of a Baker Hughes multi-year contract.
This agreement concluded on October 15, 2024, because of an open tender process within the Baker Hughes multi-year framework.
The extensive project will involve the installation of risers and flowlines necessary to produce hydrocarbons and gas and water injection.
Additionally, the contract also includes provisions for storage, maintenance, and installation support as part of the Baker Hughes multi-year commitment.

Petrobras will begin deliveries in mid-2026, using the systems in the Búzios, Libra, Berbigão, Sururu, and Sépia fields.
Baker Hughes designs flexible pipes to prevent CO2-induced stress corrosion cracking (SCC-CO2) in high CO2 pre-salt fields.
These pipes will enable Petrobras to lower CO2 emissions through gas reinjection, enhancing oil recovery while minimizing flaring.
The storage of CO2 aligns with Petrobras’ objective of reducing the carbon footprint of its operations.
Amerino Gatti, executive vice president, Oilfield Services & Equipment at Baker Hughes, said, “Brazil’s Santos Basin contains incredible potential to help power Latin America into the future.”
He added, “Operating in deep waters with high CO2 concentrations presents unique challenges. Baker Hughes’ combination of industry-leading subsea technology and engineering, expertise in offshore operations, and extensive experience in the region will assist Petrobras to unlock and develop this potential, delivering these vital resources safely and efficiently.”

Baker Hughes has a strong presence in Brazil’s offshore sector, supporting the local economy through localisation.
The Niteroi plant supplies flexible pipes, employs hundreds in Rio de Janeiro and supports local initiatives.
This new contract adds to previous agreements forged between Baker Hughes and Petrobras in 2024 as part of their multi-year collaboration.
These include an additional 69.1 kilometers of flexible pipe systems and integrated well construction services for the Búzios field.
It also provides solutions for workovers and plug-and-abandon operations across pre-salt and post-salt fields.
