Candriam, a global asset manager, announced the Candriam Sustainable Equity Water Fund. According to a statement, the fund will invest in “economic activities contributing to an environmental and/or social objective.”
According to information on the fund’s website, it is categorized as an Article 9 fund within the framework of the Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR).
The company intends to invest in organisations that are seeking to reduce pressures on water resources by utilizing clean and efficient solutions.
The company seeks to achieve this objective by identifying potential investment options. According to the release, “the management team makes discretionary investment choices based on an economic/financial analysis process and an internal analysis of environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria”.

The fund utilizes a rigorous analytical method for building its portfolio, which includes thematic and ESG screening and thorough thematic analysis. This leads to a portfolio that is strongly focused on various aspects of water.
The investment strategy is strengthened by a tailored water classification system, which includes diverse data sources and artificial intelligence to pinpoint promising investment prospects.
The strategy inputs for the fund are given by Candriam’s ESG and global equity team. The whole operation is supervised by senior fund managers Bastien Dublanc and David Czupryna.
Currently, the fund is accessible only in certain areas. Its distribution is limited to Luxembourg, Austria, Belgium, France, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, and the Netherlands.
The company has announced plans to make the fund available in the United Kingdom in the future.
