Eni earned the prestigious “Gold Standard reporting” designation under the Oil and Gas Methane Partnership 2.0 (OGMP 2.0), demonstrating its commitment to reporting methane emissions with the highest data quality.
This initiative, led by the United Nations Environment Programme’s (UNEP) International Methane Emissions Observatory, establishes a global standard for methane transparency and accountability in the oil and gas sector to effectively measure and mitigate emissions.
Eni joined OGMP 2.0 in 2020, committing to setting reduction targets and improving transparency and precision in methane reporting.
In 2023, the company received recognition under the “Gold Standard Pathway” for its significant progress in reporting implementation plans. As a result, the company has achieved the highest data quality standard in methane emissions reporting.

Leading Methane Emissions Mitigation
Eni sees natural gas as crucial for the energy transition, given its lower carbon intensity compared to other fossil fuels.
Acknowledging the urgent need to eliminate methane leakage across the natural gas value chain, Eni has set an ambitious goal of achieving near-zero methane emissions by 2030.
Between 2018 and 2023, the company reduced its methane emissions by more than half. In 2023, Eni achieved an upstream methane intensity of 0.06%, positioning itself as a leader in the sector.

Collaborative Efforts Driving Change
Collaboration is central to Eni’s methane emissions reduction strategy. Since 2014, Eni has been a founding member of UNEP Oil & Gas Methane Partnership, participating in OGCI and MGP.
In 2023, Eni joined the Oil & Gas Decarbonization Charter, aligning the sector on measurable actions to reduce emissions.
Additionally, Eni participates in the World Bank’s Global Flaring and Methane Reduction trust fund (GFMR), aimed at supporting emission reductions in developing countries.
Eni has also partnered with National Oil Companies (NOCs) to share methane management expertise, driving global reductions in the sector.
Reducing methane emissions is a core component of Eni’s broader decarbonisation strategy.
Eni aims to phase out routine flaring, improve energy efficiency, and achieve Net Zero Scope 1+2 emissions by 2030.
