OMV and aircraft manufacturer Airbus has signed a Memorandum of Understanding and committed to accelerating the decarbonization of the aviation sector by developing and deploying sustainable aviation fuels. Through this partnership, the company has agreed to strive to reduce aviation CO2 emissions with SAF as a key tool toward net carbon neutrality by 2050.SAF reduces greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80 percent compared to conventional jet fuel over its full lifecycle.
Collaborative Action for the Introduction of SAF
The collaboration between OMV and Airbus is focused on promoting the increase in availability of SAF for various customer groups, which means stimulating demand and encouraging significant investment in large-scale production of facilities for SAF. The companies will also discuss opportunities to speed up testing and evaluation and obtain approvals for new feedstocks and production pathways for SAF, accelerating its availability.
Additionally, OMV and Airbus agree on raising awareness and education for SAF but also on the significance of rules and policy for a transition towards renewable fuels.
Innovation and Sustainability Leadershiphip
