Groundbreaking Methane Emissions Collaboration
The cooperation agreement between TotalEnergies and OIL aims to conduct methane emissions detection and measurement using AUSEA technology. TotalEnergies and partners developed AUSEA, a drone-mounted gas analyzer with dual sensors to detect methane and carbon dioxide emissions.
This advanced technology enables more accurate detection and access to hard-to-reach emission points in both onshore and offshore facilities.
Patrick Pouyanné Chairman and CEO of TotalEnergies said, “We are delighted that OIL has joined the growing list of national companies we are collaborating with by making our AUSEA technology available. This clearly demonstrates that the Oil & Gas Decarbonization Charter launched at COP28 has gained momentum, thanks to the promotion of industrial best practices.”
He added, “Today, AUSEA performs campaigns on every continent and contributes to the OGDC signatories’ ambition to aim at near-zero upstream methane emissions by 2030.”

OIL’s Commtment to the Oil & Gas Decarbonization Charter
OIL, a state-owned enterprise, recently joined the Oil and Gas Decarbonization Charter (OGDC) at COP28. The charter brings together industry leaders committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Its goals include net-zero operations by 2050, near-zero upstream methane emissions, and zero routine flaring by 2030.
As part of the charter, OGDC members commit to measuring and publicly reporting progress toward these ambitious environmental goals.
By using TotalEnergies’ AUSEA technology, OIL shows its commitment to meeting and surpassing environmental targets set by the OGDC. The technology will help OIL detect, measure, and reduce methane emissions, a major climate change contributor, across its assets.
Additionally, TotalEnergies has made AUSEA technology available to other OGDC signatories, promoting best practice sharing across the oil and gas sector. This collaborative approach helps standardize methane emissions detection and measurement while advancing the industry’s collective efforts toward decarbonization.
