The International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, has announced its first sustainability-linked loan in Indonesia to help PT Nirvana Wastu Pratama (NWP), a leading retail and logistics property platform, expand green building certification across its portfolio.
Sustainability-Linked Loan to Promote Green Building Certification
IFC together with PT Bank OCBC NISP invested $53m in an 11-year sustainability-linked loan to NWP. The investment will help NWP improve its energy efficiency, reduce its GHG footprint, and achieve green building certifications under IFC’s EDGE program recognized across the globe.
This partnership will offer technical guidance to meet sustainability targets and refine NWP’s finance framework to align with IFC’s standards. The loan sets two sustainability targets: a 42% emissions reduction by 2030 and EDGE Advanced certification for new projects.
NWP’s Commitment to Green Building Practices
NWP has led the way in adopting EDGE, a green building certification program in Indonesia. In 2017, the firm secured EDGE certifications for 11 properties while six more by 2027.
Kevin Kow, CEO and President Director of NWP, said, “Working with IFC is a significant milestone which exemplifies our commitment to sustainability.”
He added, “IFC’s support will not only help us to adopt greener building practices but also to set a new benchmark for the industry in Indonesia. We are confident that this joint effort will significantly cut greenhouse gas emissions in our projects and benefit the economic development of local communities.”

Addressing Greenhouse Gas Emissions in the Building Sector
The construction and building industries consumed 23% of the country’s energy in 2021. Both sectors are heavy contributors to emissions, with a share expected to increase to 40% by 2030. IFC’s investment in NWP supports Indonesia’s urban decarbonization efforts and boosts climate resilience as part of its broader strategy.
This investment helps IFC tackle Indonesia’s financial challenges in adopting green building solutions, advancing climate finance efforts. IFC’s sustainability-linked financing is speeding up Indonesia’s transition to a low-carbon economy while boosting local economic growth.
