On Wednesday, the White House announced new measures to support the advancement of new nuclear power plants in the United States.
Nuclear power is recognized as a significant source of carbon-free electricity, crucial for addressing climate change according to the government.
These initiatives aim to assist the nuclear industry in tackling escalating security expenses and competing against more affordable natural gas, wind, and solar-powered plants.

“In the decisive decade for climate action, we need to pull as many of the tools for decarbonization off the sidelines and onto the field,” said Ali Zaidi, Biden’s national climate adviser.
During the White House event, the Biden administration introduced a new initiative to address cost and schedule overruns in plant construction. This group will identify strategies to mitigate these challenges in nuclear power plant projects.
Critics express concerns regarding the accumulation of radioactive waste stored at various plants across the country, highlighting potential risks to human health and the environment, particularly in the event of accidents or malfunctions.
