On Thursday, the Biden administration announced that the United States had surpassed its target of permitting over 25 gigawatts of clean energy projects on public lands by 2025.
Additionally, they unveiled a finalized plan to reduce project fees for wind and solar energy initiatives on federal land.
This declaration underscores President Joe Biden’s ongoing commitment to utilizing the nation’s vast expanse of federal land—totalling 250 million acres—to advance his objective of decarbonizing the U.S. power grid by 2035.

“We know that clean energy, including transmission lines, solar energy, and storage projects on public lands, is helping communities across the country contribute to the climate solution while creating good-paying jobs,” Interior Secretary Deb Haaland said on a call with reporters.
Furthermore, the administration is embarking on a distinct initiative to identify optimal areas for solar energy development in 11 western states. A finalized plan is anticipated by the end of the year.
