DRI expands renewable portfolio in Romania with 126 MW solar park acquisition
DRI, the renewable energy arm of DTEK Group, announced in a press release that it is purchasing a 126-megawatt (MW) solar park project in Văcărești.
This investment marks the energy firm’s continuing expansion in Romania. The solar park project will be the company’s third investment in the region.
The firm has two projects that have been operating and generating electricity since the start of the year. The two projects include a 53 MW solar farm in Glodeni, Mures County, and a 60 MW wind farm in Ruginoasa, Iași County.
With this investment in the Văcărești solar park, DRI’s renewable portfolio in Romania will reach a total capacity of 329 MW.
According to the press release, the construction of the solar park will commence in the autumn of 2024. It is anticipated to become operational next year.
The solar park will produce 205.8 GWh of electricity, sufficient to power 50,000 households while avoiding 48,600 tons of carbon emissions per year.

The local developers have acquired the required land, grid connection, and permits. The firm will provide support through its extensive engineering expertise, supply chain and construction management, and flexible capital structure.
John Stuart, CEO of DRI, said, “The Văcărești project demonstrates DRI’s ambition to become a significant player in Romania. We believe that Romania has the means to become a hub for renewable energy, and the new Contract for Difference scheme encourages companies like DRI to continue to invest and help unlock Romania’s solar and wind energy potential”.
The firm has plans to have 1 GW of renewable capacity operating in Romania by 2028.
