The All India Power Engineers Federation has warned the state government that the current situation is worsening daily, emphasizing that a grid outage in the northern state of Punjab could potentially trigger a nationwide ripple effect.
They cautioned that ongoing issues may lead to a significant grid disturbance if not addressed promptly.
Electricity demand has surged across Delhi and other northern regions due to the continuous use of fans, air coolers, and air conditioners, straining the power grid. Manufacturers of air conditioners and coolers are reporting a steep rise in sales, up by 40-50% compared to last summer.
In Punjab, power consumption has notably spiked by 43% this month compared to the same period last year. These increases highlight the growing strain on the electrical infrastructure as summer temperatures drive up cooling needs.

Since mid-May, numerous regions across India have been experiencing a relentless heatwave. Overnight temperatures hovering around 33°C (91°F) have provided little relief from the scorching heat.
The increased power demands in June have resulted in widespread power cuts across the region. Overheated electrical devices have triggered short circuits, leading to fires in both shops and residential homes.
