ACCIONA Energia announced in a press release that it has inked a power purchase agreement with Vidrala, a glass packaging design and manufacturing company.
The agreement is for a period of 10 years and will see ACCIONA cover Vidrala’s 20-25% electricity needs.
The agreement will come into force in January next year and will enable Vidrala to use clean energy for its operations at its manufacturing plants in Llodio (Álava), Caudete (Albacete), Castellar del Vallés (Barcelona), and Marinha Grande (Portugal).
The release mentions that the electricity agreed upon will be 100% renewable and generated through ACCIONA Energia’s wind farms.
This deal with ACCIONA Energia marks Vidrala’s first PPA incorporated into the company’s decarbonization strategy. The PPA will reduce the emissions of 150,000 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere until the contract is valid.

Galo Álvarez, Sustainability and Strategy Director at Vidrala said, “This agreement marks a significant milestone in our commitment to reduce our environmental footprint and promote sustainability in our value chain. By partnering with ACCIONA Energía, we reaffirm our commitment to decarbonization and lay the foundations for sustainable growth.”
Vidrala is aiming to decarbonise 100% of its electricity consumption by 2030.
Advanced Energy Consulting (AEC) advised Vidrala on this agreement, which follows the supply agreement that companies in Portugal have been adhering to since 2018.
