Democrats in swing states are expressing concerns about President Biden’s environmental policies. They worry that these policies, which focus on areas like pollution reduction from power plants and promoting electric vehicles, might not sit well with voters who are more focused on costs.
These Democrats are urging the Biden administration to reconsider a regulation that aims to limit greenhouse gas emissions from power plants.
The challenge for President Biden is that while these policies are popular among climate activists, they may not be well-received by some moderate voters crucial for winning elections.
“It is unreasonable to expect our constituents to shoulder the financial burden and risk associated with these advancements, particularly in the form of significantly higher utility bills and unreliable electricity,” seven House Democrats said in a previously unreported letter to the head of the Environmental Protection Agency.
There are messages of concern directed at a proposal from the Biden administration. This proposal suggests that by 2032, around two-thirds of all cars and light trucks sold should be electric.
Some moderate Democrats are trying to distance themselves from other measures proposed by the administration related to energy efficiency and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) investing.
