At the World Sustainable Development Summit in New Delhi this week, The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) will introduce a green shipping portal.
This portal aims to monitor the practices of ports across India and gather information from national and international sources about port and shipping practices.
TERI has launched the Green Shipping Program to support the National Centre of Excellence in Green Ports and Shipping, established by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways.
This center focuses on innovative research in biofuels, biochemicals, energy-saving solutions, and renewable energy for ports and ships.
The Green Shipping program conducts advanced research on sustainable fuel technologies and chemicals.
It also develops tools to assess sustainability and lifecycle benefits in various sectors such as agriculture, shipping, automotive, packaging, steel, and others.
During the summit, happening in New Delhi from February 7th to 9th, TERI will also publish policy briefs on sustainable development goals (SDGs).
These briefs will address sustainable agriculture, connections with other SDGs, and the efficient utilization of water resources.
Vibha Dhawan, director-general of TERI, said on Monday, “We will launch a publication called Solutions for Sustainable Development. This is very important because you must look into what sustainable practices should be brought into the public domain. There are many who will benefit from this publication.”
“We are also bringing out a policy brief on the SDG blueprint, focusing on the issue of sustainable agriculture, and linkages, synergies and trade-offs with other SDGs. It will be part of a larger project that we are doing on climate-resilient sustainable agriculture. Another policy brief will address water-use efficiency at the industry level,” Dhawan added.
