Japan’s transport ministry is preparing to act against a Toyota Motor Corp affiliate for cheating engine emissions tests. This could involve withdrawing certification for specific engine types, as reported by Nikkei on Monday.
According to sources cited by the newspaper, the ministry plans to instruct Toyota Industries, the world’s biggest forklift truck manufacturer, to prevent “recurrence of the misconduct.”
“The regulator will weigh the severity of the misconduct before deciding whether to do the same for engines used in Land Cruiser vehicles and HiAce vans,” the report said.

In January, the company informed the ministry about misconduct, which involved altering performance test data for various forklift and automobile engine models, as per Nikkei.
