Wind and solar energy will lead power generation in the United States for the next two years, a report by the Energy Information Administration (EIA) said on Tuesday. This will be largely supported by renewable energy installations across the country.Â
Wind power generation is projected to moderately increase to 476 billion kWh in 2025, marking an 11% rise.
The EIA said that wind capacity will remain relatively stable this year.
US solar power generation is expected to increase by 75% to reach 286 billion kilowatt hours (kWh), up from 163 billion kWh in 2023.
This growth is attributed to the inclusion of more generation capacity and favorable tax credit policies, as reported by EIA.
The electric power sector is anticipated to boost solar capacity by nearly 38% this year.
As for natural gas, the largest source of US electricity, its generation is expected to remain relatively steady at 1.7 trillion kWh in both 2024 and 2025.
Also, coal power generation is forecasted to decline by 18% to 548 billion kWh in 2025, down from 665 billion kWh in 2023.
