The Indian Institute of Petroleum (IIP) is set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Airbus, a European global aerospace corporation, to collaborate on the development, testing, and certification of indigenous Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in India.
The agreement, expected to be announced at Wings India 2024 in Hyderabad, aims to address global aviation industry decarbonization goals by 2050.
IIP has already developed hydroprocessed esters and fatty acid (HEFA)-based SAF, derived from waste such as edible oil, and tested them in commercial flights and Indian Air Force aircraft.
The collaboration with Airbus will leverage their aviation expertise for testing and market access, supporting the industry’s move toward sustainable alternatives.
