Indian refiner Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd (BPCL) announced on Wednesday its plan to establish the first green hydrogen plant within an airport in the country.
BPCL will construct and manage a 1,000-kilowatt green hydrogen plant inside Cochin International Airport.
The airport will provide the project’s land, water, and green energy resources. Initially, the produced hydrogen will be utilized to power vehicles at the southern airport, according to BPCL.
Green hydrogen, made from water using renewable energy, is a future fuel supporting carbon-neutral plans. Indian firms are investing heavily to cut emissions, aiming for net zero by 2070.
