Vice President Kamala Harris has been actively involved in advancing environmental priorities within the Biden administration. Harris shares similar climate and energy positions with President Biden and has prioritized clean energy and environmental justice throughout her career.
When Biden selected her as his running mate in the 2020 election, he highlighted her record of taking on big oil during her time as San Francisco’s district attorney from 2004 to 2011 and later as California’s attorney general until January 2017, when she began serving as a US senator.
Last year, Harris made her international climate debut by committing $3 billion to the Green Climate Fund and delivering her first major climate-focused speech at international negotiations.
