SSE eyes 800 MW offshore wind farm to boost Ireland’s renewable energy goals
SSE, a multinational energy company, submitted the planning consent application for the proposed Arklow Bank Wind Park 2 project. The proposed project is reported to have a capacity of 800 megawatts (MW).
According to a report by Energy News Live, the energy company submitted the offshore planning consent application form to Ireland’s planning authority.
SSE is pushing this project to achieve its intention of constructing an 800 MW offshore wind farm near the coasts of Wicklow and North Wexford.
The wind park project aims to accelerate Ireland’s shift to renewable energy. It is expected to provide enough power for 850,000 households.

The proposed wind park project also aims to reduce CO2 emissions by more than 800,000 metric tons each year.
In addition to the energy provided and the reduction of CO2 emissions, the wind park project is also expected to have an economic impact, generating $800 million and creating nearly 2,300 jobs.
This proposed project will be built on the energy company’s existing 25MW offshore project.
The project is currently in the proposal stage and requires consent from Ireland’s planning authority.
Following the approval, the project will reach the investment stage. If both of these stages are cleared, the wind park will begin its construction in 2026 and go online in 2029.
SSE’s proposed wind park is a part of Ireland’s target to establish 5 gigawatts (GW) of offshore renewable energy by 2030.
