Tronox Holdings PLC, a titanium dioxide producer, announced it has inked a power purchase agreement (PPA) with South African energy company NOA Group Ltd.
According to Tronox’s press release, the energy company NOA will provide around 497 gigawatt-hours of green electricity.
The electricity, produced using more than 200 megawatts (MW) of wind and solar parks, will power Tronox’s mines and smelter in South Africa (SA).
According to the press release, Tronox anticipates that the project should be completed by the “end of 2027 and is expected to reduce Tronox’s total Scope 1 & 2 greenhouse gas emissions by an incremental 12% globally.”
The agreement to procure green electricity aligns with the company’s sustainability goals.
The release mentions that the PPA is an addition to “ongoing projects and investments being pursued by Tronox to meet its publicly announced goal to achieve Net-Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050”.
