Wolfspeed Inc., an American developer and manufacturer of wide-bandgap semiconductors, introduced a silicon carbide module designed to transform the renewable energy, energy storage, and high-capacity fast-charging sectors.
The new 2300V baseplate-less silicon carbide power modules for 1500 volts direct current (DC) Bus applications are built using Wolfspeed’s 200mm silicon carbide wafers, delivering enhanced efficiency, durability, reliability, and scalability to critical energy markets.
The company has integrated these modules into utility-grade solar and energy storage systems in partnership with EPC Power, a North American manufacturer of utility-scale inverters.

According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), 2024-25 is expected to experience the highest growth rate in energy demand since 2007, highlighting the urgent need for reliable and efficient clean power solutions.
Wolfspeed’s silicon carbide technology will meet this demand and improve US’s position in producing clean energy.
These silicon carbide modules provide industry-leading switching performance, enhanced system efficiency, and reduced passive components.
In comparison to IGBTs, they offer a 77% reduction in switching losses, a 15% increase in voltage headroom, enhanced dynamic performance, and a smaller EMI filter.
