As official negotiations continued in COP29’s Blue Zone, the Green Zone brought together various engaging public events on November 12, highlighting the significant contributions of businesses and community leaders in combating climate change.
These events, organised by the COP29 Presidency, aimed to enhance public involvement and present practical solutions for a sustainable future.

Business Leaders Drive Corporate Sustainability Dialogue
The day’s highlight was the “Corporate Sustainability and Climate Action” panel by COP29 Azerbaijan and Azerbaijan International Bank. The discussion highlighted corporations’ roles in reducing carbon emissions and achieving net-zero targets with industry leaders and sustainability experts.
The panel featured notable speakers such as Samir Mammadov from the United Nations Global Compact, Taleh Tahirli, Deputy Chairman and Chief Transformation Officer at ABB, and Kaushik Burman, CEO of Spiro.
Additionally, the panel included Tahir Gozel, President of Qarabag FK, and Maria Peres, Lead Partner for Brazil at GreenSpace Tech Hub by Deloitte. Discussions covered strategies for the private sector to embed sustainability into their fundamental operations, particularly concerning low-carbon transitions, green technology, and sustainable supply chains.

The Green Zone’s second day attracted public interest through diverse events showcasing various perspectives on climate and nature. Panels and workshops highlighted young women’s influence on climate justice and the vital role of local communities in preserving biodiversity.
Discussions also focused on youth leadership in environmental initiatives, highlighting how young individuals can influence biodiversity and climate policies.
Experts and stakeholders gathered to discuss community-focused climate solutions and promote collaboration in conservation and resilience efforts.
