According to a 2024 Capgemini report on global investment trends, more than 52% of organizations are projected to boost their investments in sustainability within the next two years.
As sustainability becomes ingrained in most companies today, there is a growing demand for roles dedicated to overseeing and implementing environmentally friendly practices.
Many companies are actively advocating for developing and recruiting individuals with expertise in green skills.
Sunil Chemmankotil, CEO of Teamlease Digital, offering specialised staffing solutions, told Financial Express, “Sustainability and green initiatives have become top priorities across sectors, leading to consistent growth in green industries and a rising demand for skilled professionals. The employment outlook in these sectors is optimistic, with a potential for India to generate 35 million green jobs by 2047.”

According to the Green Industry Outlook report by TeamLease Digital, the proportion of green talent in the workforce increased by 12.3% between 2022 and 2023, while job advertisements requesting at least one green skill rose by 22.4%.
The escalating need for green employment opportunities led to significant growth in cities such as Delhi-NCR, with a year-on-year (YoY) increase of 289%, followed by Mumbai (216%) and Bengaluru (174%), which were instrumental in propelling this transformation.
Meanwhile, LinkedIn’s Global Green Skills Report for 2023 indicates a transition toward green skills and employment, as evidenced by the activities of over 930 million LinkedIn users globally.
The percentage of green talent on the platform increased from 9.6% in 2015 to 13.3% in 2021, representing a growth rate of 38.5%.

The 2023 Global Green Skills Report from LinkedIn further reveals that across 48 countries, the proportion of green talent grew by an average of 12.3% between 2022 and 2023, while the demand for job postings requiring at least one green skill surged by 22.4%.
