Linde CEO Sanjiv Lamba told Reuters, during a post-earnings call, on Tuesday that the recent changes to Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) subsidies for clean energy projects will not impact the company’s ongoing projects in the United States.
“Recently, there have been some updates and indeed some confusion regarding the IRA regulations,” Lamba said.
“We expect future US on-site clean hydrogen projects to primarily leverage 45Q credits since we have not yet identified any large on-site green hydrogen projects that meet our investment criteria,” he added.
In 2022, President Joe Biden approved the landmark $430-billion IRA law. It offers various subsidies to support the shift towards green energy and aims to lower inflation and the US budget deficit.
Linde plans to put $1.8 billion into a blue hydrogen plant in Texas, providing hydrogen for OCI’s ammonia plant. The project is counting on IRA tax relief to reduce costs.
