Luxury sports car manufacturer Automobili Lamborghini has unveiled a bold climate commitment, aiming for a 40% reduction in CO2 emissions per car across its entire value chain by 2030.
This new pledge follows the introduction of Lamborghini’s environmental sustainability strategy, “Direzione Cor Tauri,” launched in 2021, which outlined plans for electrification and decarbonization.
Under the “Direzione Cor Tauri” roadmap, Lamborghini is focused on electrifying its product line and reducing emissions at its Sant’Agata Bolognese production site and headquarters.
The company’s first step towards electrification was releasing its High-Performance Electrified Vehicle (HPEV) hybrid super sports car last year. Lamborghini plans to introduce its first fully electric model in 2028, followed by a fully electric SUV in 2029, with the ultimate goal of achieving a 50% reduction in fleet CO2 emissions by 2025 and an 80% reduction by 2030.
Lamborghini’s new commitment encompasses its entire value chain, including supply chain, logistics, and product use phases, expanding its environmental efforts beyond electrification.
Stephan Winkelmann, Chairman and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini, emphasized that “Direzione Cor Tauri is our roadmap to electrification of the Lamborghini range and the path to decarbonization, not only of our Sant’Agata Bolognese facility, but of the entire value chain: it is a holistic approach to our global environmental sustainability strategy.”
In addition to electrification, Lamborghini has outlined several initiatives to reduce emissions and enhance environmental sustainability across its value chain.
These measures include decreasing energy and water consumption, implementing a sustainability ratings system for suppliers, and transitioning the transportation of finished vehicles from air to rail, contributing to a more eco-friendly logistics approach.
Lamborghini’s ambitious climate commitment signals a significant step towards environmental responsibility within the luxury automotive industry, aligning with broader efforts to combat climate change and promote sustainability.
