The Biofuel Company in Saudi Arabia has unveiled plans to significantly boost its refining capacity, aiming to triple its output by 2025. This expansion initiative aligns with the company’s commitment to supporting Saudi Vision 2030 and domestic sustainability objectives.
Gary Hubbard, Senior Vice President of Commercial & Operations, revealed in an interview with Zawya Projects that ongoing capacity expansions in Jeddah and Riyadh will elevate the company’s total refining capacity to 36 million litres per annum by 2025. This ambitious growth strategy comes in response to increasing demand and underscores the company’s dedication to meeting domestic needs.
The current flagship refinery in Jubail, recognized as the largest biofuel refinery in the Gulf, currently refines 12 million litres of B100 annually. Building on this success, the company plans to replicate its achievements in Jubail with new facilities in Jeddah and Riyadh, each expected to refine 12 million litres of B100 per year upon commencement of operations in 2024 and 2025, respectively.
Crucially, The Biofuel Company is steadfast in its commitment to serving the domestic market exclusively, with no intentions for international expansion or biofuel exports. Hubbard emphasized the company’s holistic approach to sustainable growth, encompassing operational efficiency, environmental stewardship, and financial viability, while simultaneously generating in-country value.
By prioritizing domestic market development and contributing to Saudi Arabia’s efforts in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, The Biofuel Company aims to play a pivotal role in advancing the kingdom’s sustainable energy agenda and fostering economic prosperity in alignment with national objectives.
