Following the COP28 global climate summit, the Eastern and Southern African Trade and Development Bank Group (TDB Group) and the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) have joined forces to enhance cooperation in climate adaptation funding. Signed on December 20, 2023, the agreement aims to accelerate TDB’s implementation of its climate finance strategy across its member states in Africa.
The framework established between TDB Group and GGGI focuses on pursuing eligible transactions that contribute to sustainable economic growth across the continent. Specifically, the partnership will explore opportunities in adaptation finance, co-financing, and project finance within the region served by TDB.
Key areas of collaboration include implementing TDB’s Climate Finance Strategy, developing project pipelines, and mobilizing equity from potential institutions such as financial entities, pension funds, and investors. Additionally, the partnership will facilitate knowledge exchange and share best practices in related topics.
Admassu Tadesse, President and Managing Director of TDB Group, emphasized the importance of promoting sustainable development in Africa while addressing climate imperatives. Tadesse expressed enthusiasm for expanding available capital and enhancing the project pipeline to maximize positive impacts on the economies served by TDB.

Mary Kamari, Executive for Corporate Affairs and Investor Relations at TDB Group, highlighted the significance of adaptation solutions in agriculture for African farmers, who represent a substantial portion of the continent’s workforce.
