Sustainability Forum Middle East (SFME) partners with Boston Consulting Group (BCG) to host a roundtable on “MENA’s Economic Transition – Seizing Green Opportunities for Growth and Human Capital Development” on October 9 in Bahrain.
This event is a component of SFME’s “Decarbonisation Roundtable Series,” which addresses issues in the region’s transition to a low-carbon future.
The discussion will focus on how decarbonization offers potential for economic expansion and job creation and how developing human capital is key to the Middle East’s economic transformation.
Business, climate, and sustainability leaders will discuss how Middle East and North Africa (MENA) can achieve its 2050–2060 net-zero goals.

According to a recent study by the International Labour Organisation and the Islamic Development Bank, decarbonization in the MENA region may increase employment by 5.3% and GDP by 7.2% by 2050, creating 10 million new jobs.
The panel will delve into the strategies needed to realize these opportunities, including policy incentives, industrial diversification, and investment in renewable energy.
The roundtable aims to discuss how the region can meet its climate goals while ensuring an economic transition.
Discussions will focus on using the area’s solar, wind, and land resources, its labour force and creating training programs to upskill employees in legacy industries for positions in the green economy.

Giuseppe Bonaccorsi, Managing Director and Partner at BCG, said “The Middle East, particularly Bahrain, is uniquely positioned to achieve ambitious climate targets while driving economic growth. Decarbonization not only fuels diversification and job creation but also accelerates the development of innovation ecosystems in GCC countries in line with net-zero goals.”
He added, “This, in turn, enhances talent attraction and upskilling, which are critical for building a circular and nature-positive economy. Collaborative efforts like the Sustainability Forum Middle East roundtable, which we are proud to play an active role in, are key to addressing the challenges and seizing the opportunities of the net-zero transition.”
Pablo Avogadri, Partner and Director of Energy at BCG, will host the panel discussion, featuring leaders from the public and private sectors following a talk with Sael Al Waary, Group CEO of Bank ABC.
