A coalition of 11 state agricultural commissioners and one secretary of agriculture in the US has raised concerns with six major financial institutions regarding their participation in the Net-Zero Banking Alliance (NZBA).Â
The group, including Bank of America, Citigroup, Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan Chase, Morgan Stanley, and Wells Fargo, expressed worries about the potential impact of environmental commitments made by these banks on the agriculture sector.
The commissioners sought more information on the NZBA’s implications for farmers, food supply security, consumer prices, and credit access.
They emphasized the importance of supporting American farmers and urged banks to reconsider participation in the UN-organized NZBA, citing potential negative consequences for the agricultural industry.
