In a joint effort, the US Department of Energy (DOE) and the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) have announced plans to issue a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) aimed at allocating $1 billion in financial assistance awards.
The funding will target three technical areas of interest (AOI) focused on reducing methane emissions within the oil and natural gas sector.
Expected to be released in late February or March 2024, the FOA will provide a 60-day window for applicants to apply for financial assistance.
With the goal of minimizing methane emissions across the oil and natural gas supply chain, the competitive process will encompass various stages, from upstream production to processing, transportation, storage, and downstream end-use.
To facilitate the application process, potential applicants are encouraged to begin preparations in advance and may seek assistance from organizations like Holland & Knight. The initiative underscores a concerted effort by federal agencies to address environmental concerns and promote sustainability within the energy sector.
