Kosmos Energy, a leading independent deepwater exploration and production company, announced the first liquefied natural gas (LNG) production at the bp-operated Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) LNG project located offshore Mauritania and Senegal. This is a significant milestone in the development of the project.
Start of Gas Flow and Liquefaction Process
On December 31, 2024, the first phase of GTA witnessed gas flow from the wells to the FPSO. This is one of the key steps towards commissioning the facility. The team cleans and removes condensate, water, and impurities at the FPSO then transfers this to the floating LNG vessel where it is subjected to liquefaction.
First LNG Delivered and Revenue Generation Set to Begin
The LNG liquefaction process has now begun, with Kosmos Energy set to recognize gas entitlement production from this project in its upcoming quarterly statements. Additionally, BP notified the off-taker (BP Gas Marketing Ltd.) of the upcoming arrival of the first LNG cargo later this quarter. This event marks the point at which Kosmos will start to recognize revenue and generate cash flow from the project.
