TotalEnergies, an energy company, signed a Heads of Agreement (HoA) with the China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec).
This marks a step in expanding its liquefied natural gas (LNG) operations.
According to the agreement, TotalEnergies will deliver 2 million tons of LNG annually to Sinopec for a duration of 15 years, beginning in 2028.
This substantial agreement enhances the company’s presence in China, the world’s largest LNG market, further reinforcing its position in the region’s energy transition.

Strengthening Energy Collaboration
The partnership between TotalEnergies and Sinopec aligns with China’s energy transition objectives.
By increasing LNG imports, China aims to reduce its reliance on coal for electricity generation, reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Natural gas plays a vital role in this transition, especially since it supports variable renewable energy sources by offering a more consistent energy supply.
Stéphane Michel, the President of Gas, Renewables & Power at TotalEnergies, said, “We are delighted to have been chosen by Sinopec to supply 2 million tons of LNG to China, the largest LNG importing country in the world.
He added, “This new agreement demonstrates the competitiveness of TotalEnergies’ LNG business and allows us to continue growing our long-term sales in Asia.”
Niu Shuanwen, Senior Vice President of Sinopec Corporation, emphasized the role of natural gas in advancing energy transition and China’s dual carbon targets, reaffirming Sinopec’s mission to become a leading clean energy and chemical enterprise.

Advancing Sustainability Through Energy Partnerships
This agreement follows a wider strategic cooperation framework formed earlier this year during President Xi Jinping’s state visit to France.
It emphasizes the commitment of both countries to energy and climate objectives.
The collaboration with Sinopec further strengthens the relationship between TotalEnergies and one of China’s dominant LNG companies.
Both organizations share a focus on global sustainability and clean energy initiatives.
