Australia’s national science agency, CSIRO, and Swinburne University of Technology have joined forces to spearhead research and development in green steel and mineral processing, contributing to global decarbonization efforts.Â
The partnership, named the ‘Sustainable Mineral Processing and Green Steel Program,’ focuses on developing low-carbon pathways for iron, steel, and critical metals while enhancing recycling technologies.
The initiative aims to address key challenges for the mineral resources industry in achieving net-zero targets. Leading experts from both institutions, including Professor Geoffrey Brooks and Dr. Suneeti Purohit, will play pivotal roles in advancing sustainable steelmaking and solar-powered steel production.
Swinburne University is positioning itself as a leader in supply chain transformation and sustainability, aligning with global priorities.
The collaborative program supports Australia’s commitment to halve emissions in challenging sectors by 2035 and aligns with CSIRO’s Towards Net Zero Mission.
