Toyota Motor Europe, Ford of Europe, and another European vehicle manufacturer are set to reduce emissions from their logistic chain by utilizing LNG-fueled vessels.
The companies have signed up for United European Car Carriers’ (UECC) “Sail for Change” sustainability program, which aims to promote decarbonization in maritime transport throughout Europe.
The three manufacturers’ cumulative annual emissions reduction for UECC is projected to be approximately 80,000 tons, or more than one-third of the company’s global scope 1 emissions from ship operations, which are predicted to be approximately 220000 tons.

Glenn Edvardsen, the UECC CEO said, “We are thrilled that three of our major clients have decided to participate in Sail for Change, which demonstrates the power of industry collaboration in advancing decarbonisation. Those willing to invest in sustainable transport now will ultimately reap the rewards as new regulations give a commercial impetus for green operations.”
Energy & Sustainability Manager Daniel Gent of the UECC says car manufacturers can drastically cut their expenses exposure to the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS).
The program, which makes it easier for manufacturers like Ford and Toyota to bunker bioLNG or liquefied biomethane on UECC’s dual-fuel Pure Car and Truck Carriers (PCTCs), is anticipated to help lower their Scope 3 emissions.

Additionally, the shift will ensure compliance with the future FuelEU Maritime standards, which go into effect in the upcoming year, and decrease their exposure to expenses under the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS).
The Sail for Change program, backed by the UECC’s bunkering arrangement with Titan Clean Fuels at the Port of Zeebrugge, makes carbon-neutral cargo operations around Europe possible.
Customers may follow clean fuel usage across the supply chain with a comprehensive CO2 register, which provides certified data on emissions reductions.
