Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL), a leader in shipping innovation, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Madoqua Renewables Holding Lda to develop a green shipping corridor. This collaboration aims to connect Portugal to Northern Europe. This will establish a sustainable and low emission shipping route. The project will focus on transporting green fuels and promoting zero emission shipping technologies.
Collaboration for a Greener Future
MOL and Madoqua, a renewable energy developer, are joining forces with global industry leaders to drive the green corridor project. This partnership includes companies from Europe, Asia, and North America, each contributing to the energy transition. The collaboration covers various sectors, such as financial partners, terminal operators, policy institutions, green fuel producers, and alternative fuel off-takers.

MOL’s main function will be to facilitate the transportation of green fuels and carbon dioxide (CO2). The company will also promote the use of zero-emission vessels to reduce maritime sector emissions. Through cooperation with other stakeholders, MOL will provide logistical and operational expertise to help shape the future of the green corridor.
Supporting Europe’s Climate Goals
Green Corridor Project represents the flagship of MOL’s general environment strategy. To this end, the company adheres to reaching net-zero emissions of greenhouse gases by 2050 as foreseen in European Union’s climate goals. MOL’s involvement in this green initiative aligns with the company’s “Environmental Vision 2.2,” focusing on business models that enable net-zero emissions.
A Comprehensive Approach to Sustainability
Madoqua, the project coordinator, is developing large-scale green hydrogen projects in Portugal, including green ammonia and e-methanol production. The Madoqua Green Fuels Terminal in Sines, Portugal, will store, handle, and bunker alternative fuels using renewable energy. This collaboration supports European climate goals and the growing global green fuel industry.
MOL’s participation in this green corridor further demonstrates the company’s leadership in sustainable shipping and its commitment to a greener, more sustainable future for the maritime industry.
