The US Energy Information Administration (EIA) reported that the production capacity of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in the United States may increase by 1400% in 2024, assuming all announced capacity additions are completed and operational.
The EIA projects that SAF production will increase significantly, rising from 2,000 barrels per day (bpd) to nearly 30,000 bpd by 2024.

Phillips 66’s Rodeo facility in California achieved its renewable fuel production goal of 50,000 bpd in June, with 10,000 bpd dedicated to SAF.
Valero’s Diamond Green project, located at its Port Arthur, Texas refinery and developed in partnership with Darling Ingredients, is slated to commence operations in the fourth quarter of this year.
It aims to produce 15,000 bpd of SAF by the end of 2024.

The EIA forecasts that biofuel production in the United States will rise by approximately 50% in 2024, driven primarily by increasing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production.
In line with these developments, the White House has set ambitious goals: to fulfil all of the U.S.’s aviation fuel needs with SAF by 2050 and to achieve an annual supply of at least 3 billion gallons of SAF by 2030.
