The Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) is actively promoting green investments to facilitate a shift towards clean energy and mitigate carbon emissions, aiming for sustainable development in the country.
Agus Justianto, Director General of Sustainable Forest Management at the ministry, emphasized the significance of transitioning to clean energy as a crucial component of Indonesia’s sustainable development agenda.
At a seminar in Jakarta, Justianto outlined government initiatives aimed at strengthening planning and control mechanisms, including the utilization of the environmental information system Amdalnet.
This system plays a pivotal role in assessing environmental impacts, a prerequisite for obtaining business permits.
Furthermore, the government is exploring strategies to capitalize on the economic value of carbon in managing greenhouse gas emissions, with plans to integrate carbon markets and instruments into national development efforts.
Justianto stressed the importance of establishing a transparent and inclusive carbon economic ecosystem characterized by integrity and fairness.
Recognizing the ongoing challenges in natural resource and environmental management, Justianto underscored the necessity for Indonesia to prepare in terms of technology, investment, and governance to ensure sustainable growth.
In the forestry sector, the KLHK is ensuring good governance through the implementation of the Timber Verification and Legality System (SVLK), resulting in a notable increase in certified companies from 2,742 in 2017 to 5,461 in 2023.
