On Monday, the Moroccan government announced its intention to allocate 1 million hectares to green hydrogen projects, with an initial phase starting at 300,000 hectares, to attract investors.
Green hydrogen, generated by electrolyzing water with renewable energy sources, is anticipated to be instrumental in the decarbonization of industries.
The prime minister’s office said this initiative will “play a major role in the field of energy transition globally” and position Morocco as a significant player in global energy transition efforts.

According to the statement, Morocco’s proposition encompasses integrated projects spanning electricity generation from renewable sources and electrolysis.
Additionally, the statement mentioned incentives for investors without providing specifics. It further stated that the offtake would cater to export and domestic consumption.
Approximately 100 investors have shown interest in producing green hydrogen in Morocco, which aims to leverage its abundant sun and wind resources to expedite its energy transition.
